New Edu, n.o. (New Edu) is a dynamic research and training organisation based in Slovakia, dedicated to developing innovative learning programs and platforms for both educational and enterprise sectors. With a core focus on the agricultural and food industries, New Edu brings extensive experience in entrepreneurship and infrastructure development, particularly in crafting unique business models such as local government-led, private sector-led, joint ventures, and community-driven initiatives.
A key feature of New Edu’s approach is the integration of practical experience into Vocational Education and Training (VET), with a strong focus on mentorship. The organisation collaborates closely with academic institutions like the Slovak University of Agriculture, alongside local governments and policymakers from cities such as Nitra and Rovinka. These partnerships strengthen New Edu’s ability to develop innovative, high-impact solutions that drive the sustainable development of rural communities.
New Edu is staffed by seasoned professionals with decades of expertise in the agricultural sector. Team members have held positions such as the Director General of the Slovak Centre for Agricultural Research, and have contributed to policy development during Slovakia’s accession negotiations to the EU. Their collective experience spans more than 20 years and includes projects across Europe, Asia, and the United States.
Through their work, New Edu has made significant contributions to enhancing education and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector. The organization is also an active member of the Slovak pilot partnership in the FoodRUs Horizon 2020 project, which focuses on building resilient food systems across Europe by reducing food losses and waste through circular solutions.
Nitra and the Challenges Facing the Agricultural Sector
The Nitra region, where New Edu is headquartered, is known for its agricultural heritage and serves as a key hub for food and beverage (F&B) production. Nitra’s strategic location in Slovakia makes it a critical logistical centre, facilitating transport and connectivity for both local and international markets.
However, like many regions, Nitra faces challenges in integrating digital technologies within the F&B sector. Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) struggle with limited resources and expertise, which hinders their ability to implement digital transformation. Additionally, a significant skills gap exists in green and digital technologies, making it difficult for businesses to adopt more sustainable and efficient practices.
New Edu, through the DIGIFABS project, aims to address these challenges by promoting digital innovation in the agricultural sector. The project will provide essential support to SMEs in adopting Industry 4.0 technologies, such as automation, IoT, and big data analytics, to increase productivity and sustainability.
New Edu’s Role in DIGIFABS: Fostering Digital Transformation
In the DIGIFABS project, New Edu plays a central role as a local business partner for Slovakia. The organization’s involvement includes identifying best practice cases and recruiting SMEs to participate in the project’s “SME goes Digital Challenge” in Work Package 3. Additionally, New Edu will be responsible for designing and implementing bootcamps and summer schools in Work Packages 4 and 5, ensuring that the project delivers practical, hands-on digital transformation experiences for SMEs.
Throughout the project, New Edu will leverage its extensive local network to recruit SMEs for participation in various activities, including factory tours and challenges. The organization’s strong business acumen will contribute significantly to the sustainability of the DIGIFABS project outcomes.
